Removal of a section of the Squamish Spit is expected to happen in October, to help young salmon from the Squamish River make their way to shallow water where they can mature before moving into the deeper waters of Howe Sound. The hope is that access for kiters and tourists, in the future, will still be a possibility to the island that will be left after construction. Squamish Windsport Society President, Nikki Layton was on the show today to talk more about the support needed to make that a reality.
