The Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) has announced a ban on all outdoor tap water use will come into effect today, August 31st.

The District says the region’s water supply is at risk due to prolonged dry weather, and the Stage 4 restrictions will be in place for all regional water customers south of Pender Harbour.

Under the drought conditions, water use priorities will focus on water for human health, firefighting and environmental flows. In addition to water conservation measures, the SCRD is working to deploy an emergency backup system to access water at Chapman Lake.

The District also says that as of Friday the hot tub at the Sechelt aquatic Centre will close, the water park at Shirley Macey Park has been closed and BC Transit buses are no longer being washed. Residents are urged to conserve water at every opportunity.

More details on which communities are effected by the restrictions can be found at SCRD.ca
