BC Ferries has released the results of its recent public engagement surveys for the Sunshine Coast and Bowen Island.

More than 4,000 people participated in the engagement campaign that spanned six weeks. Respondents wanted reliable sailing times and said that considerations such as adequate capacity and connectivity with transit should be viewed as equally important when evaluating schedules. Morning and afternoon commute times are also the least flexible to change according to the majority of those who participated.

Both Bowen Island and Sunshine Coast residents wanted commuting time sailings maintained, and increased capacity and frequency of service.

Mark Collins, BC Ferries President and CEO was pleased with amount of engagement they received; “We know these routes are challenged by sailing delays and we want to make changes to ensure our customers can rely on the schedules as published.”

The company is looking at long-term plans for terminal improvements, vessel replacements, and information technology upgrades for the Sunshine Coast and Bowen Island. However, the improvements are still a few years away.
