Police in Squamish are reminding recreational boaters to wear life jackets or Portable Flotation Devices and be familiar with capsizing drills, especially when accessing fast moving water.

The call comes after RCMP responded alongside the BC Ambulance Service and the Squamish Fire Rescue Service on Sunday to a report of a capsized canoe with 3 people in the Cheekye River on the Squamish Valley Road.

Fortunately in this instance all 3 boaters were experienced, wore life jackets, and had practiced capsize drills. As a result all made it safely to shore with no injuries.
