The District of Sechelt has reached an agreement with the British Columbia Government and Service Employees Union.

According to a release the new Collective Agreement is effective from January 1st, 2016 to December 30th, 2020 and provides a number of wage increases for unionized employees.

The agreement will see a wage increase for unionized employees of 1.5% in 2016, 1.75% in 2017 and 2018 and a 2% increase for the remaining two years.

New to the agreement are provisions that will allow the District to employ casual workers to provide coverage during a regular employee’s leave of absence.

Mayor Bruce Milne says council is pleased with the five year agreement, which demonstrates the value placed on employees and the ability of the District to provide ongoing quality public services to the community.
