After a one year hiatus the Squamish Triathlon will return this year with a new format and a new course.

The event had previously been held annually since 1998. In a release organizers say that this year bikes will head off road and onto the world class Squamish mountain bike trails.

The Squamish Triathlon is held as a tribute to the memory of Squamish resident Bob McIntosh, who was also an internationally accomplished triathlete. Proceeds from the event go to the Robert W. McIntosh Memorial Scholarship Fund with scholarships awarded annually to two Howe Sound Secondary School graduates who display excellence in athleticism, academics and citizenship.

Assistant Race Director Volker Schneider says; “We are extremely happy to see the Squamish Triathlon being revived in a new and exciting format that fits well with the character of Squamish… Personally, I am very happy to see the legacy of the Bob McIntosh Memorial continue in the new race”.

The race will take place on July 16th at Alice Lake Provincial Park with a Championship category (1.5 m swim, 25 km bike, 10 km run), Sport category (750 m swim, 12.5 km bike, 5 km run) and relay options for those who want to try one component of the event in a team format.
