“Hi, I’m Cal! I am a 3 year old male lab/mastiff cross. My biggest hurdle with adoption is that I am nervous to meet new people! I can play a little hard to get, making sure you bring the goodies, warm chicken or some tasty roast beef to help me learn to trust you! Once I trust you, my sweet & sensitive side comes out. I will lean my full body into your legs for back and butt scratches. The friends that I love the most I give the best puppy dog eyes to.”

“Cal is a giant with a big heart. Don’t be fooled by his gentle look and shyness; inside, he is a goofball that likes to play. Overall well mannered, walks good on leash, likes to cuddle. Cal still has a few things to improve, but he is a fast learner and a clever boy. Cal is ready for the next chapter in his life and has a lot to offer.” – Guillaume (Cal’s friend and foster. Fosters Cal with his WAG rescue Meitzu, who he adopted last year)

“Cal and I have enjoyed many walks together up on Nesters Hill. There have been warm sunny days, rainy days and of course knee deep snow filled trails in the winter. His favourite activities during our walks is playing “find it” with his treats, tracking cheeky squirrels and my favourite, stopping for a snuggle just because. He’s such a snuggle bug! Cal is also an excellent listener if you need an ear to bend. ” – Mary (Long time WAG volunteer, one of Cal’s favourites to go on walks with)

“Cal is an excellent and polite house guest. It takes him a bit of time to get used to coming into a new space, but once he is comfortable he relaxes, follows you around the house like a (big) little shadow and spends most of his time in your bed (if he is allowed). Cal is the perfect mix of adventure and chill. He loves big hikes in the forest, followed by a nap and cuddles. He definitely likes to have a “safe space” in the house that he can retreat to if he is feeling uncomfortable, at our house it is our bed. Cal is very good at sharing another dog’s space, however the other dog must be ok with sharing you, as Cal loves getting lots of attention! It will take Cal some time to get used to new noises, people and places, but once he gets settled in a place he is the most loving and fun companion. If I had a bigger home I would 100% adopt Cal, he is the best! ” – Robyn (WAG Staff member and Cal Foster)

My perfect match:

  • Is willing to take a few trips to WAG to get to know me before taking me home. I am fearful of strangers when I first meet them.
  • Has lots of patience and understanding of my past – we were feral with our other siblings for the first 6 months of our lives, then our first home was PAWS & WAG.
  • Having a safe & secured yard would be a bonus for morning zoomies! If not, being okay with using a long line to allow freedom but keep me safe.
  • Loves goofy loveable quirky boys!
  • Will continue working with a WAG-approved trainer post-adoption.
  • Will be okay with a vocal dog! I am loud and like to bark when I get excited!
  •  I’d love to have a chance to visit my siblings. We love having chances to meet up with each other!
  • Will love me forever no matter what, quirks and all!
