In an e-mail sent to Whistler Blackcomb employees Chief Operating Officer Dave Brownlie has announced approximately 60 positions will be eliminated from the resort after the winter season.

Brownlie says the eliminations will come from within the IT, Finance & Accounting and Marketing, Sales & Communications departments, as they already have staff doing those jobs at their corporate office in Colorado. Changes will take effect on May 1st 2017, however no changes are expected in any other areas of resort operations including: Mountain Operations and Maintenance, Guest Services, Rental/Retail, Food & Beverage, Snow School or Employee Experience.

In the statement Brownlie says there are currently 43 openings across the Company, including eight at the resort. The Company has offered to pay relocation and/or visa costs for anyone who is a good fit for the roles. He says; ‘In addition, we will be considering where any of these open roles could be located at Whistler Blackcomb. For others, we will be providing outplacement services, support and an appropriate severance package that respects each individual’s unique history with the resort.’

Whistler Blackcomb also announced several changes in leadership. Changes include the departure of Senior Vice President of Marketing & Sales Stuart Rempel and Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer Jeremy Black. Rempel and Black will be leaving by December 2nd 2016.

The shuffles include Karla Grenon, General Manager of Marketing, will now oversee the Whistler Blackcomb Brand, Creative and Content Development and Product Marketing. Flora Ferraro, Vice President of Finance, now overseeing all of the Resort Finance activities for Whistler Blackcomb. Ian Jenkins, General Manager of Sales, will take on a new role overseeing International Sales for all of Vail Resorts, and David Wilcox will take on the new role of Senior Manager of Treasury & Strategic Development Analyst for all of Vail Resorts.

In response to the changes Chairman and CEO of Vail Resorts Rob Katz says; “While organizational changes are an inevitable part of the combination of companies, we have done everything possible to minimize the number of impacted positions and employees and the impact that these changes will have on the entire Whistler Blackcomb team”.
