The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) has confirmed that 20 residents evacuated from communities in the district that were impacted by flood water that occurred on Wednesday. Most of the 20 residents that left their homes were from the community of Mount Currie.

Sarah Morgan, SLRD Emergency Management Analyst says those residents that had to leave their homes are being looked after. Morgan says all roads in the district are now open, except for Pemberton Meadows Road at KM 23. The road is currently closed due to washout, however crews are working to re-open it.

Mayor of Pemberton Mike Richman says; “there’s still some impacted areas, some farms, some residents, up the valley, and down the south side of Highway 99 where they still have lots of standing water and trapped water in there. There’s still lots to be done and people to help…”

On Wednesday evening Lil’Wat Nation issued an evacuation order for Indian Reserves #1 & #2. Residents were advised to seek shelter at the Ullus Community Complex.

Rain is expected overnight until Sunday, however it’s not expected to be as severe. The BC River Forecast Centre has downgraded the Lillooet River near Pemberton, and surrounding creeks and tributaries to a High Streamflow Advisory.
