The children’s section in the Pemberton and District Public Library will see a $50,000 refurbishment this fall.

Updates will include new carpet, paint, shelving and seating. Library Director Emma Gillis says they’ve been slowly outgrowing the space; ‘We were having to look at ways to create more flexible space’. The library will be replacing fixed shelving with portable shelving on wheels, so that it can be moved for some of the bigger programs.

Last year they had nearly 78,000 visits to the library. After school and particularly in the fall and winter months Gillis says the children’s library is ‘very well used’. They’ve also been putting on more programs after school that has increased visitor numbers.

The children’s library will be closed to the public from November 7th to 11th for the refurbishment. Staff hope to re-open on November 12th but the official re-opening date will be on November 14th.

The $50,000 investment comes from the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District.
