Whistler Community Services Society – Press Release

May 28th, 2020

We know everyone has been doing some major spring cleaning these past few weeks and we can’t say thank you enough for holding on to your donations for the Whistler Community Services Society (WCSS).

Through the resale of your donations at our stores (Re-Use-It and Re-Build-It), WCSS generates about 75% of the funding required to run our program and services. That’s about 20 incredible, free programs for this community, including the Food Bank, Outreach Services, Birth Baby & Beyond, Parenting Support Group, and more.

We anticipate a very high volume of donations in these first few months so we have introduced new procedures.

How to Donate to the Re-Use-It Centre Whistler’s thrift store will accept donations starting May 29.

Drop off will be available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 8000 Nesters Rd. Locals, please keep items until it is your neighbourhood’s turn to donate on a rotating basis:

Sunday: Emerald/ Rainbow/ Wedgewood
Monday: Alpine/ Green Lake Estates
Tuesday: Spruce Grove, White Gold, Whistler Cay Heights, Whistler Cay, Nesters
Wednesday: Whistler Village, Brio, Blueberry, Blackcomb Benchlands, Alta Vista
Thursday: Westside, Nordic, Creekside, Bayshores, Kadenwood
Friday: Spring Creek, Function Junction, Cheakamus, Pinecrest/Blacktusk
We will happily accept gently used, pre-loved or unwanted items. We are not able to accept large donations, furniture, books or cardboard. Note: The Re-Build-It Centre will remain closed at this time.

Drop Off Donation Process

• Each day of the week will be reserved for groups of neighbourhoods to drop off
• We have designed a drive-by drop off system where vehicles can drive to the donation door, as we can’t have anyone from the public in our building at this time.
• One of our staff will be outside to indicate where your donations go, but you will be asked to handle them yourself and take any cardboard boxes to the recycling depot.
• We will be storing donations for 3 days before we sort them, so please make sure items are CLEAN & DRY before dropping off. Do not include any food or animal attractants.

Option for Donation Pick Up

With the support of Whistler Connections, we are offering a free pick-up service for Re-Use-It donations. Visit our website at mywcss.org to schedule a pick up time.

Unfortunately, dumping donations after hours has been a huge problem at Re-Use-It in the past. Please drop off during operating hours! Avoiding this now is more important than ever with the pandemic health regulations, and with many bears in the valley right now. For the safety of our staff, our community (human or otherwise) we ask that you DO NOT DUMP donations outside our scheduled hours (10 a.m. – 6 p.m.).

Thank you! Your donations make a huge difference in our community, build Whistler’s circular economy, and keep waste out of our landfill. We can’t wait to see you in our stores again! Stay tuned for store opening dates by following us on Facebook or Instagram.
