Squamish RCMP say they were called to assist the BC Ambulance Service on June 22nd at approximately 1:45 pm due to a rock climber who had fallen from the Stawamus Chief.

RCMP, the BC Ambulance Service, and Squamish Search and Rescue attended to The Grand Wall area and located a man who had fallen approximately 30 metres whilst rock climbing.

“We believe this incident to be a terrible accident and our thoughts are with his friends and family at this difficult time.” says Sergeant Sascha Banks.

Police are now working to contact the man’s next of kin, and the BC Coroners Service has taken over the investigation.

“We do want to stress to those that visit our beautiful surroundings to be prepared, know your area, and please be safe in your adventures” added Banks. “But also know if you are hurt or lost we (Squamish Emergency Services/Squamish SAR) have an amazing cross-section of people who will do everything to find you and help you.”
