A $2.7 million grant-funded water infrastructure project in Lions Bay has been halted, in its current form.

Mayor Karl Buhr says delays and design changes meant the deadline needed to be extended from March 2018 to March 2019 and the project re-tendered with a new delivery date. The only bid was unacceptably high according to Buhr and the project was killed.

The municipality is now investigating whether the 1980’s-era Harvey Water Tank can in fact be renovated, rather than replaced. The hope is to have the project re-re-tendered, likely in smaller bite-size pieces to interest smaller, local, specialist contractors.

The Mayor says the work is “not nice-to-have for Lions Bay, it’s must-have”.
