The Sunshine Coast Regional District (SRCD) has awarded $4,998 to six waste reduction projects through the SCRD’s Waste Reduction Initiatives Program.

The program provides funding to community groups, non-profit societies, charities and school groups for projects that contribute to waste reduction in the region or that divert materials from the landfill.

Organisations that will receive the funding include:

  • North Thormanby Community Association
    • $1500 to implement an on-island community composting program.
  • Roberts Creek Community School
    • $605 to build a composter for the future community garden and to help nearby businesses divert food waste.
  • Bartholomew’s Anglican Church
    • $750 for an on-site composting program for the food bank and other church programs.
  • Sunshine Coast Repair Café
    • $880 to expand monthly repair cafes to Sechelt and Pender Harbour.
  • West Sechelt Elementary School
    • $773 to launch an on-site school composting program.
  • West Howe Sound Community Association.
    • $530 to expand its mobile community composting program.
