A Squamish brewery has picked up a number of provincial awards in their first year of operation.

Backcountry Brewing were recently honoured as BC’s Best New Craft Brewery at the BC Beer Awards. The sold out event features 30 categories almost 100 breweries and nearly 900 beers.

The company won silver for their Ridgerunner Pilsner in the German Pale Lager category and in the American IPA and American Pale Ale. They also won silver for their Widowmaker IPA and gold for their Trailbreaker Pale Ale.

The brewery was also awarded Rookie of the Year which recognizes BC’s best new craft brewery as well as Best Social Media Presence in the Creative Awards category.

The watering hole opened in April 2017 and hosts a taproom, 10 beers on tap as well as local cider, local guest craft beers and wines alongside pizzas, salads and more. The company says they are focused on ‘crafting amazing beers and are ecstatic at being recognized for their beers’.
