Police on the Sunshine Coast are reminding the public to be cautious of scams from unsolicited callers.

The reminder follows an incident last week, where a man called the Sunshine Coast RCMP detachment saying that he was from a large computer company. When the caller was advised by staff that he had in fact called a police station, he said that their personal computers at home had a virus. He advised that he could help clean it up. Staff at the detachment recognized the scam and hung up.

Police say that you should never give out any personal or financial information unless you’re sure of who you’re speaking too.

You can find more information about popular scams by visiting the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre or the Better Business Bureau.
