The BC Wildfire Service will be conducting a series of controlled pile burns in the Squamish area this month to remove logging debris and reduce the risk of wildfires in the area.

While the piles are burning, smoke will be visible from the community of Squamish and surrounding areas. The burns will be conducted by BC Wildfire Service crews and will be carefully monitored at all times. The sites are all within 2.5 kilometres of Squamish.

The BC Wildfire Service says controlled burning of this logging debris during favourable weather conditions will allow the fuels to ignite easily and burn quickly. Since these burns will only be conducted on days with favourable venting conditions, smoke is expected to move up and away from the community.
